CBD Women Caucus: Dialogue on CBD Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework: Perspectives on Gender-responsive Biodiversity Plan and Actions by Mrinalini Rai June 17,2020   |  Source: Women4Biodiversity

In 2020 the Convention on Biological Diversity will adopt a post-2020 global biodiversity framework as a stepping stone towards the 2050 Vision of “”Living in harmony with nature”. In its decision 14/34 the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity adopted a comprehensive and participatory process for the preparation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.

An advice note and accompanying guidance material to enable a gender-responsive post-2020 process was welcomed by the Conference of the Parties, in decision 14/34, which urged Parties, the Secretariat and other relevant organizations to consider this advice in their processes on the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.

The current Strategic Plan of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which includes the 20 Aichi Targets, has a time frame until 2020. Therefore, the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-15), to be held in 2021 in Kunming China (TBC), “is expected to update the Convention’s
strategic plan” (www.cbd.int/post2020) which could be done by adopting a new global biodiversity framework.
