International collective in support of fishwokers (ICSF) in partnership with Comiss\u00e3o Nacional de Fortalecimento das Reservas Extrativistas (CONFREM), Instituto Linha D\u2019\u00c1gua and Associa\u00e7\u00e3o de Moradores Itacuru\u00e7\u00e1 Pereirinha (AMOIP) organized an International Workshop titled \u201cIYAFA 2022-Celebrating Sustainable and Equitable Smallscale Fisheries: Latin American and Caribbean\u201d from 2 to 5 November 2022 at S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil.<\/p>\n
The Latin American and Caribbean workshop was the second of the series of four regional workshops planned by ICSF in connection with the proclamation of 2022 as the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA) by the United Nations. The workshop revolved around discussions on the SSF Guidelines implementation and monitoring and specifically focused on the themes of tenure rights, social development and gender and women in fisheries.<\/p>\n
The workshop had a diverse group of 54 participants from CSOs, CBOs and FWOs from 16 participating countries namely- Argentina, Bahamas, Belize, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia. The discussions of four-day workshop resulted in the formulation of \u2018The IYAFA LAC Statement\u2019 and \u2018Gender Equity Action Plan\u2019.<\/p>\n
