{"id":94835,"date":"2022-05-18T14:31:03","date_gmt":"2022-05-18T09:01:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.icsf.net\/?post_type=newss&#038;p=94835"},"modified":"2022-05-18T14:31:03","modified_gmt":"2022-05-18T09:01:03","slug":"chinas-new-subsidy-reforms-dont-include-distant-water-fleet","status":"publish","type":"newss","link":"https:\/\/www.icsf.net\/newss\/chinas-new-subsidy-reforms-dont-include-distant-water-fleet\/","title":{"rendered":"China\u2019s new subsidy reforms don&#8217;t include distant-water fleet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A major new reform of China\u2019s fishery subsidy system doesn\u2019t apply to its distant-water fleet.<\/p>\n<p>Leaders in the provinces of Fujian and Shandong \u2013 two key bases for the country\u2019s distant-water fleet \u2013 recently announced they will scrap fuel subsidies in favor of payments linked to compliance with fishery laws and conservation goals.<\/p>\n<p>Subsidies granted by the provinces to fishing firms will now be awarded based on fishing trawlers meeting a series of requirements that include port entry and exit reports and the use of location-monitoring equipment and reporting of fishing data. Fujian province has also included catch limits on juvenile fish as part of its requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the requirements are similar to those being recommended by international organizations as a means to curtail illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
