It follows the passage of a similar law enacted in 2022 that was successful in reducing lumber theft.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seafoodsource.com\/news\/supply-trade\/chilean-authorities-dealing-with-a-rise-in-salmon-stick-ups\">Thefts of truckloads of farmed salmon<\/a>\u00a0being transported from farming centers to Chile&#8217;s markets or airports have grown more common, and are linked to organized crime,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.diarioconcepcion.cl\/politica\/2022\/12\/18\/gobierno-analiza-crear-leyes-contra-el-robo-de-ganado-salmones-y-cables-de-cobre.html\">Diario Concepci\u00f3n reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In October 2022, detectives from the Puerto Montt Criminal Investigation Brigade of the national investigative police, PDI, arrested 30 individuals allegedly affiliated with a criminal organization dedicated to stealing salmonid products unfit for human consumption destined for processing into fishmeal and fish oil.
