Tension prevailed when two fishermen groups, belonging to two villages, attacked each other at Dasturabad mandal centre on Monday night. Two persons sustained injuries in the clashes erupted over rights of fishing in Godavari river. As many as 25 residents of both villages were booked for involving in this incident. Khanapur Inspector A Naresh Kumar said that the injured were Chityala Shankar and Chinna Bheemanna, fishermen from Dasturabad village. The two received injuries when the both groups indulged in attacking each other using axes, knives and large sticks. The medical condition of the injured is learned to be safe. Trouble broke out when fishermen of Dasturabad descended over banks of Godavari for netting fish near Rampur village Dasturabad mandal. This angered their counterparts of Rampur. They resorted to attacking members of other group using some weapons including axes and knives. Consequently, two persons had injuries. Eight others were also detained by their opponents in the night of Monday. Upon learning about this clash, police rushed to the spot and pacified warring groups. They released those captured fishermen and registered cases against 11 of Dasturabad and 14 from Rampur villages. The accused would be bounded before Nirmal Revenue Divisional Officer. Investigations were taken up, informed Naresh. Sources said that the two groups were at loggerheads over rights of fishing at a spot in the river from the past few years. Fishermen of Rampur were legally allowed to take up fishing in the river after they moved a court six months ago. But, their counterparts of Dasturabad were not satisfied with the verdict. So, cops suggested the both groups, not to net fish. However, they indulge in fishing in nights and leading to quarrels.
