Two-member scientists delegation of AK Bera and AK Sahu from Central Inland Fish Research Institute (CIFRI), Kolkatta visited Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) in Pochampad village of Balkonda mandal on Sunday and several fish and water samples for lab tests. They will send a detail report to the state Fisheries department within 10 days. Few days ago local Fisheries department officials sent samples to State Fisheries Institute, Kakinada but they were not satisfied. Then, district collector and Fisheries commissioner informed about the situation to CIFRI, which agreed to study the situation and find the reasons. Fisheries Development Officer G Raja Narasaiah told Express that in June 2016, they spread 2.41 crore fish seed across district but a few days ago, fish died in SRSP and later the disease expanded to other tanks. Unknown disease afflicting reservoir In the last few days, a kind of fish disease has afflicted the reservoir due to which the fish are dying and recently the disease has expanded to several tanks in Balkonda, Kammarpally, Morthad and Nandipet mandals which receive water from SRSP canals
