The South Asian Fishermen Fraternity (SAFF) has welcomed the State government’s announcement on a separate housing scheme for fishermen. General Secretary of SAFF Fr. Churchil thanked the government’s gesture on construction of 5,000 individual houses for them. But he added that a quality house could not be constructed at Rs. 1.70 lakh. Under the Green House Scheme houses were being constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.10 lakh and this should be extended towards the Fishermen Housing Scheme too, demanded Fr. Churchil.
