Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan gave away cheques worth Rs. 2 lakh to four families under the Fishermen Group Accident Relief Insurance Policy during the monthly fishermen grievance day meeting at the Collectorate here on Friday. The cheques were distributed in the presence of Rajya Sabha MP A. Vijaykumar and Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Fishermen Cooperative Federation. New bus services Replying to the demands of the fishermen to introduce new bus services in coastal areas, the authorities said that enough number of services were being operated in the demanded routes. It was also informed at the meeting that road works in Ganesapuram area in Arogyanathapuram in Karungal Town Panchayat would be taken up after being approved at the council meeting. No government orders have been issued to bring Kurumbanai under the Simon Colony or Palapallam town panchayats. Applications have been issued to fishermen to avail the free housing scheme of the government after convening a consultative meeting of the presidents of the Inland Farmers’ Cooperative Societies.
