The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) has identified a few places in the sea near Kanniyakumari to create artificial coral reefs with a view to improve fish production. Preparation of the proposal was in the final stage, it was announced at the monthly fishermen grievance day meeting here on Friday. Addressing the fishermen at the grievance meeting, District Revenue Officer S. Elango said that tenders have been floated for setting up a fishing jetty in Chinnathurai and Eraviputhenthurai. Action has been initiated to replace the existing lights with LED in the new bridge at Manakkudi. Efforts are also being taken to replace the damaged electricity poles. It was informed at the meeting that a list of eligible persons for pension has been prepared and sent to the Commissioner of Fisheries through the Tamil Nadu Fishermen Welfare Board. The meeting was presided over by the District Revenue Officer, S. Elango. Assistant Director (Fisheries) S. Rubert Jothi and other officials were present.
