The Sri Lanka Navy said it has arrested six local fishermen yesterday for allegedly engaged in illegal fishing practices. Naval personnel attached to SLNS Gajaba located in Thalpadu, Mannar in North Central Naval Area, arrested the six local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities using unauthorized fishing nets in the seas off Erukkulampiddi Point on 9th July. Along with the suspects two dinghies and six monofilament nets were also taken into custody. The apprehended persons and the items were handed over to Mannar Assistant Director of Fisheries for onward action.
