The Sri Lanka Navy said it has arrested 14 local fishermen yesterday for allegedly engaged in illegal fishing practices. Naval personnel attached to Fast Attack Craft deployed in the Eastern Naval Command, arrested the 14 local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing practices in the sea area off Illanthnttunu Saturday (8). Along with the suspects, two dinghies, two unauthorized nets and two diving fins were also taken into custody by the Navy. The apprehended fishermen have been brought to the naval base SLNS Lankapatuna, and handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries, Trincomalee for further investigations.
