A group of Sri Lankan fishermen who were sentenced in Myanmar are set to return home, soon. The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar, has announced that the 15 Sri Lankan fishermen, who have been granted amnesty from Myanmar’s custody, are slated to be repatriated to Sri Lanka within the current month.

The amnesty granted to them coincides with Myanmar’s designated amnesty day.nThis group comprises fishermen who embarked from Negombo aboard two vessels.

Previously, they had been convicted and sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for offenses related to illegal fishing and the unauthorized entry into Myanmar’s territorial waters, contravening immigration regulations.
