State Minister of Fisheries, Dilip Wedaarachchi recently inaugurated a program to establish fisheries housing villages for fishermen in deep South with the funding from the Government of South Korea. The inauguration ceremony was held on Tuesday (22nd Nov) at Bataatta, Ambalantota under the patronage of State Minister Wedaarachchi with Kim Im Kwen of National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives of Korea as the Chief Guest. Under the first phase of the housing project, fully funded by the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives of Korea, 25 houses will be constructed in Bataatta fisheries village. The housing project was awarded to Sri Lanka as a result of the visit made by the State Minister to Korea and it will be implemented as a part of his proposed program for economic and social empowerment of Sri Lanka’s fisher community.
