Panaji: Fisheries minister Nilkant Halarnkar clarified that the Goa Marine Fishing Regulation (Seventh Amendment) Rules 2023 don’t apply to any fishing activities in inland waters, but to those fishing in deep seas only. It said the rules relate to those fishing with a set of hooks numbering 200-300 and in deep seas, and not within the state’s internal waters. The notification mandates registration of equipment and paying of fees. Issued by director of fisheries Dr Shamila Monteiro, the notification states that the rules apply to individual fishers using cast nets and fishing with traps. The notification calls on those fishing to pay registration and licence fees. Harlarnkar said the public should not be alarmed as this rule hasn’t come in the way of anyone fishing in Goa till date. The notification prescribes different registration and licence fees for those fishing with long lines and hook and line for sport fishing
