Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) seized a large quantity of illegal liquor during an operation conducted at sea. Director General (DG) PMSA, Jameel Akhtar revealed this while addressing a press conference held at Headquarters PMSA on Wednesday. “On credible information, a suspicious boat was intercepted at open sea and 12,400 bottles/cans of illegal high quality liquor worth of Rs 60 million was seized, he said. In addition to this, six smugglers were arrested, he said adding that seized liquor and apprehended crew are being handed over Pakistan Customs for further legal proceedings. said that the arrested smugglers were Pakistani and belonged to coastal areas but they were very poor. Aim of the PMSA is to control smuggling, illegal fishing and piracy or terrorism at Sea areas falling in Pakistan, he said. “ We are focusing on enhancing capacity and capability of the PMSA where the induction of new Ships and Helicopters would make it more efficient to control such smuggling and illegal activities at sea areas of the country. he said. Reply to a question, he said that illegal fishing was done by Indian fishermen who had been arrested along with many boats.
