The forest personnel of Gahirmatha Marine sanctuary today intercepted a fishing trawler and arrested 7 fishermen for catching fish unlawfully after trespassing into the No Fishing zone of the Sanctuary. According to of Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary Ranger Subrat Kumar Patra the fishermen were nabbed just 10 kilometer distance from Babubali, inside teh marien sanctyary during a patrolling. The forest personnel chased the trawler, managed to arrest seven fishermen and seized two quintals of fish catch ,6 trawling nets, 1 GPS set , 1 fish finder, 1VHF set and other fish catching equipments from the fishermen. All the arrested fishermen were later produced before the JMFC court at Rajnagar which remanded them into jail custody after rejecting their their bail petitions. So far the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary personnel have seized as many as 17 boats and arrested 118 fishermen ever since the authority had imposed ban on trawler fishing from November 1 last at Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary to provide congenial atmosphere to the endangered Olive Ridely sea turtles for mass nesting.
