A fishermen’s advocacy group is calling on fishermen in southwestern Nova Scotia to either stay home or hold back their catch until lobster prices go up.
The 1688 Professional Lobster Fishermen’s Association will hold meetings on Wednesday in Yarmouth and Barrington to discuss the issue.
Fishermen have been hauling in a record harvest since the winter season began last week.
But the large catches are flooding the market and driving down prices.
Lobster has been selling in most areas of southwestern Nova Scotia for three dollars per pound.
The association claims fishermen need five dollars per pound in order to make a profit.
