There is no tsunami threat to Hawaii after a magnitude 6.8 earthquake occurred off the coast of Peru, according to the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the earthquake happened about 6:25 a.m. Hawaii time.

The earthquake was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reports, “Based on all available data a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii. Repeat. A destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
