A special operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy to chase away Indian trawlers  poaching in Sri Lankan waters last evening (28) and this morning (29), led to the seizure of five (05) Indian trawlers and 37 Indian fishermen who were poaching in Sri Lankan waters off Mannar and near  Delft Island, Jaffna.

The three (03)  Indian trawlers that were apprehended in Sri Lankan waters off Mannar, were crewed by 23 Indian fishers while the two (02) Indian trawlers apprehended near the Delft Island had 14 Indian fishers on board.

The Sri Lanka Navy remains committed to conducting routine patrols and operations within Sri Lankan waters to deter the unlawful fishing activities of foreign trawlers. This effort is driven by an understanding of the impact of such practices on the livelihoods of local fishermen and the marine resources of the country.
