One of China’s biggest fishing companies has just launched two new vessels and has already dispatched them to the waters off Myanmar. Guangdong Fisheries Group – also known as Guanyuan Fishery Group Co. – sent ‘Yue Yuan 818′ and ‘Yue Yuan 819′ trawlers to its operations in the Southeast Asian nation after a launch ceremony in Zhanjiang, a port city and processing hub in Guangdong province on China’s southern coast. One of the big state-owned fisheries companies – like the Shanghai Fisheries Group and Liaoning (Liaoyu) Fisheries Group – Guanyuan has vessels operating around the world, with a sizeable presence in Malaysia and the Philippines and across the Pacific islands as well as in Oman. The firm has also been building a giant new logistics center in Guangzhou city and has made much of its efforts to increase imports of seafood such as salmon and lobsters for domestic consumption.
