Manipur Biodiversity Board observed the International Dav of Biodiversity under the theme of Be part of the Plan , along with Community Convention on Fishes, at Sangai Hall of Hotel Imphal on Wednesday.

The programme was attended by additional chief secretary (Forest, Environment and Climate Change) MH Khan as chief guest, Manipur Biodiversity Board member Soreiphy Vashum as president and Indo-German Bilateral Cooperation Project (GIZ-NERAQ) project manager Patricia Dorna as guest of honour.

In her speech, Soreiphy Vashum said that Manipur is one of the most important biodiversity hotspots among the Himalayan and Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspots.

However, excessive use of the biodiversity resources, pollution, loss of habitat, harmful fishing activities, and climate change have greatly affected the biodiversity and ecosystem of the region.

During the technical session, different experts and resource persons spoke on varied topics, including traditional practices, conventional fishing practices and documentation of traditional knowledge.
