Following the demand from the residents of Ward 88 in Nerul, NMMC has finally constructed a municipal fish market. The residents wanted a better option than the street market that led to encroachments and garbage. Last week the one-storey structure was inuagurated and will house the fish mongers and the vegetable sellers as well. “Despite cleaning the area twice a day there was garbage piling up and the residents wanted a solution. That’s when we decided on building a proper structure,” said the ward corporator Shilpa Kambli. With proper lighting and drainage facililies the locals are happy with the set up. While the market is complete, Kambli said they are in the process of putting in additional entrances, toilets and ventilation as requested by the vendors. Once complete, the market will be functional. The market can house 18 vendors but more can be accomodated if necessary.
