The national committee of the National Fishworkers Forum is meeting at New Delhi on Friday to chalk out a nationwide campaign on issues affecting fisherfolk and exert pressure on the government for remedial measures. A press note quoting the National Fishworkers Forum general secretary T.Peter said on Thursday that the meeting would discuss the proposed amendments to the Coastal Regulation Zone notification, the demand for a Fisheries Ministry, a 90-day trawling ban, fuel subsidy for fishing boats, the threat posed by construction and tourism activities to the livelihood of coastal communities, and the arrest of Indian fishermen by neighbouring countries. the National Fishworkers Forum representatives from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Odisha, and Bengal are expected to participate in the meeting.
