The Fisheries department will promote breeding of indigenous fish varieties in inland water bodies in the state with the help of Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture. A meeting held on Tuesday charted out various projects in this regard. Most of the projects are coming up in Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram. Shrimp feed factory at Kollam and Kannur, shrimp seed farm at Neendakara and Thiruvananthapuram, seed farms for Milk Fish, Sea Bass fish varieties at Kollam and Thiruvanahtapuram are some of the projects on the cards. Minister for Fisheries J Mercykutty Amma said the projects would cost Rs 15 crore and the provision has been made in the budget regarding this. Technology will be provided to the state by the Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture.
