A search was launched off Valiyathoppu coast near Kadinamkulam on Monday after a 48-year-old fisherman failed to return from sea. The missing person has been identified as David, a resident of Karinkulam village. David’s abandoned catamaran was found floating in the mid sea by other fishermen on Monday afternoon. According to Kadinamkulam police, David set off alone on his catamaran from Valiyathoppu coast around 6pm on Sunday. “Usually he goes to sea for work in the evening and returns on the next day before daybreak. It was David’s sister who informed us as he did not return even after 11am. We have informed the Coast Guard and they have combed the spot and the surrounding areas where David’s abandoned catamaran was found,” police said. Fishermen said the weather was normal and the sea was not rough on Sunday night. The Coast Guard will launch a search again on Tuesday. David is a widower and has been living with his sister for many years.
