A Hyderabad-based firm has begun a pilot project to artificially infuse oxygen into a part of the Ulsoor Lake, using oxidants. The pilot has been given a go ahead to test if such infusion of oxygen externally can lead to increase in the Dissolved Oxygen (DO) levels in the lake, depletion of which was blamed for fish kill in the lake. Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George visited the lake on Wednesday and inspected the project. He said that fish kill could be completely prevented only if the sewage inlet into the lake is completely stopped. “There is sewage entering the lake from Shivajinagar and Jeevanahalli. I have directed the BWSSB to lay pipes and separate the sewage from the Storm Water Drains (SWD) within the next one month, he said.
