Japan’s government will be soon building a $12 million fisheries complex in Nevis, the island’s government announced.

The news of the long-awaited project, which will be located in the Bath Village area, was revealed by Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Alexis Jeffers this week.

The facility will play a role in the “expansion of the fishing industry on Nevis, Jeffers said.

It will be constructed on a beach located between Conch Shell and VON Radio, on a landing site formerly used by fishermen. The project had been previously slated to be constructed on Prince William Street in Charlestown.

“We do believe that the Complex has a major role to play in the expansion of the fishing industry here on the island, Jeffers said.
