Tamil Nadu Fisheries University organized an expert consultation on “Revitalizing Indian Fisheries Education at Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi, Tamilnadu. Deputy Director General (DDG) J.K. Jena (Fisheries), Indian Council for Agriculture and Research, New Delhi was invited as Chief Guest. Deans, faculty members, research scholars and experts from the field were present in the occasion. The purpose of the consultation was to recommend changes in the curriculum and the recommendations will be submitted to Indian Council for Agriculture and Research (ICAR) for incorporating the changes in the curriculum. To improve the technology for harvesting both marine and inland fishes was emphasized. It was also pointed out that the curriculum needs to be updated to face the environment and marine pollution that had resulted in vanishing of certain species of fishes.
