The National Fish workers’ Forum (NFF) and Goenchea Ramponkaranchea Ekvott (GRE), bodies representing traditional fisher folk, on Saturday lambasted the Union Ministry for Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) for supporting the establishment of shacks on the Goa’s coastline during off-season. Shacks are seasonal eateries erected along the tourist coastline of the State. General secretary of NFF Orlando Simoes, said: “How will the beach shacks withstand the strong winds that hit the beach during the rainy season? The Government hasn’t managed to curb CRZ violations throughout the coastal belt of India, and Goa in particular, instead this is an innovative way of misusing the law in order to give back door entry to further CRZ illegalities.
