Sri Lanka’s National Aquatic Resource Research and Development Agency has opened a Fisheries Information Center yesterday.

Fisher Community, investors, researchers and students can obtain relevant information and solutions to the matters in the fisheries sector from this center.

Participating at the opening ceremony Minister Rajitha Senaratne said that several strategies have been introduced to obtain more foreign exchange from fisheries industry.

He said Sri Lanka is planning to boost deep sea fishing and double tuna exports by 2015 with the help of new vessels from Japan and China.

According to the Minister the industry plans to double fishery exports from US$ 250 million to about US$ 500 million.
