Fresh hilsa has been caught in fishermen’s nets in the country’s largest Teesta Barrage in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat.

The issue has created enthusiasm among the fishermen and locals. The buyers are now buying these hilsa fishes paying Tk300 to Tk500. The first hilsa fish was caught in this Teesta in 2017.

After catching the hilsa fishes from the river this noon (May 9), locals opined that those would come from Brahmaputra and Jamuna River.

Gaddimari Union Parishad’s former member Ainul Haque said, we had seen hilsa in the river in 1988 during the flood. Again, the fishes are found in the river. We are happy now.

District fishing Officer Mohammad Farukul Islam said, after checking the sample, details can be said later.
