Jashore district, located in the Khulna division, has cemented its position as the leading hub for fish farming in the Khulna division. Over an extended period, the dedicated fish farmers of Jashore have consistently achieved outstanding results, propelling the district to the forefront of fish production in the region.

The annual fish production in Jashore has witnessed a steady rise, showcasing its potential for growth. In the fiscal year 2022-23, the district surpassed all expectations, producing a staggering 2,41,107 tons of fish.

The Jashore District Fisheries Office affirms that Jashore is self-sufficient in fish production, exhibiting consistent growth each year. The fiscal year 2022-23 witnessed the district’s commendable output of 2,41,107 tons.

According to reliable sources from the Fisheries Department, the ten districts of the Khulna Division collectively yield an annual fish production of 7,18,405 metric tons.

Md Anwar Shadat, a reputed fish grower in Balla under Jhikarchha upazila, shares his observations about Jashore becoming a fish hub in the Khulna region due to its favorable geographical conditions like water and soil. Many entrepreneurs in the district have achieved success in fish farming. However, the rising cost of fish fodder is a cause of concern for farmers as it may impact their expected benefits.

Professor Subrata Mondal, Chairman of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Biosciences at Jashore University of Science and Technology, attributes Jashore’s success to its historical prowess in fisheries. The district benefits from favorable soil and water conditions, facilitating optimal fish farming and ensuring the production of high-quality fish.

Firoz Ahmed, the Fisheries Officer for Jashore District, proudly proclaims that the district has consistently produced a surplus of 4,97,795 metric tons of fish over the past three years, surpassing local demand. With its remarkable achievements, Jashore claims the top spot among the districts of Khulna Division in terms of fish production.
