Bangladesh earned $547.28 million in the previous fiscal by exporting 75,338 tonnes of fish and fish products, said Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Tuesday. The minister said this in reply to a written question of treasury bench member Nurunnabi Chowdhury in the parliament. The country has earned $459 million by exporting 40,726 tonnes of frozen shrimp in the 2015-2016 fiscal. Tofail said different steps have been taken in the last five years to overcome compliance risks of exporting shrimp. He said the government has been following the ‘National Shrimp Policy, 2014’ for this purpose. The commerce minister said shrimp farmers have been trained ‘Good Aquaculture Practice’ and provided with farmers assistance book and pond record book for better shrimp farming, according to a news agency.
