The government has proposed Tk1,813 crore for the fisheries and livestock sector in the national budget of 2023-24 fiscal year. Terming the budget as significant, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said: “We have introduced a plan for the conservation of endangered fish through artificial breeding, the development of fish species through qualitative research, the development of commercially important fish vaccines using Molecular Biology, the development of hatchery management using Nano Technology, the modernization of marine fisheries resources extraction, preservation and processing.”

Even an action plan has been adopted to build smart livestock sector to double the production through disease control of cattle and poultry, he said. “In FY24, our target is to increase the daily per capita availability of domestically produced milk to 236gm, to produce 4.6 million levels of semen in the cattle breed development and conservation to artificially inseminate 4.2 million cows/calves across the country, to breed 4.15 million chickens in government poultry farms and to distribute subsidized prices,” he added.
