The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning has started preparing an integrated strategy for the development of the fisheries sector in Bahrain.
The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning, Dr Jumaa Bin Ahmed Al Kaabi, stressed the keenness of the ministry to serve professional fishermen and increase the fish stocks, in addition to achieving the optimal investment of marine wealth.
He also said that the ministry is doing its utmost to promote the fishing profession as it is one of the sources to achieve the relative food security in marine products.
Dr Al Kaabi said that the strategy would directly regulate the issue of licences granted to fishermen, besides addressing many other issues including overfishing, illegal methods during fishing and legalisation of procedures in exporting fish to companies.
