In addition to proposed sea port at Bhavanapadu, another fishing harbour was proposed in the sea coast in the district, said Government Whip Kuna Ravi Kumar. He participated in the World Fishermen’s Day celebrations here on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, the Government Whip explained that Bhavanapadu port was proposed 50 years ago, but the TDP government took initiative for the construction under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He said that the location for the fishing harbour would be finalised either in Srikakulam rural or Etcherla mandal soon. The government was implementing various schemes for the uplift of fishermen, including pension scheme, said Srikakulam and Narasannapeta MLAs G Laxmidevi and B Ramana Murthy. A residential school was proposed for fishermen kids at Ampolu village in Gara mandal and it would be started from next academic year, said Zilla Parishad chairperson Ch Dhanalakshmi. District Collector P Laxminarasimham and officials were present.
