Bala Vikas Foundation is offering a six-month-long tailoring course for fisherwomen at its Bridge School at Fishing Harbour. BVF honorary secretary Narava Prakasa Rao told the media here on Saturday that the NGO was imparting training in sewing skills for the last five years. “So far we have trained 175 women batch-wise at the institution. The agenda is to provide sustainable income, encouraging the participants to devise ways to get an alternative source of income, he said. This year, the first batch began with 30 fisherwomen from Peda Jalaripeta and Paindorapeta and neighbouring areas. Led by trainer M. Lakshmi, the workshop will introduce the participants to designing blouses, kurtas and churidhar sets. Classes will be held at Bridge School between 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.
