According to the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation, Africa’s fisheries sector raked in some USD24-billion (R254.32) in 2011.
By the end of 2013, it accounted for well over two percent of the continent’s GDP.
Despite this, the organisation says the sector could be doing much better, if it was better managed and production diversified.
