During the past one year the navy arrested 448 Indian fishermen who had illegally come to the Sri Lankan sea area violating sea limits.

Navy media spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said that the navy had apprehended 121 trawlers along with these Indian fishermen.

Meanwhile 20 Indian fishermen and six trawlers were apprehended yesterday within the Kachchativ sea limits.

The navy media spokesman said further that these would be brought to the attention of fishing inspectors of the area.

Meanwhile this year the Indian Coastal Guards arrested more than 400 Sri Lankan fishermen.

Meanwhile, addressing a meeting in negambo yesterday, JVP MP Vijitha Herath stated that Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senerathne does not have a proper progarmme to harvest the fish resources in the country.
