Cambodia tells tourists, fishermen not to venture out to sea due to impact of southwest monsoon August 03,2019   |  Source: Xinhua

Cambodia on Saturday advised tourists and fishermen not to venture out to sea from Aug. 3 to 6 as the kingdom is suffering from the impact of the southwest monsoon.

"There will be torrential rains and strong winds at coastal areas, especially in Preah Sihanouk and Koh Kong provinces," said a weather forecast released from the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology.

"Wind speeds are from 15 to 20 meters per second, as waves are as high as 2 meters," the forecast said, adding that flash floods are expected, especially on some parts of the National Road 4.

Preah Sihanouk Provincial Governor Kuoch Chamroeun issued a statement on Saturday, appealing to tourists and fishermen to avoid going to sea during the period.

"Tourists, sea travelers, and fishermen should be extra-vigilant, and they should not play in the sea water, nor go fishing in order to avoid any possible dangers," he said.
