​Traditional fisheries catch in Oman registers a rise April 16,2018   |  Source: Times of Oman

The total catch from traditional fisheries in the various governorates of the Sultanate in January 2018 was 38.2 tonnes, valued at OMR26 million. In the Governorate of Muscat, the fish catch through traditional fisheries stood at 2,899 tonnes in January 2018. For the corresponding period in 2017, the catch was 2,510 tonnes, showing a percentage increase of 15.5 per cent. In the Governorates of North and South Al Batinah, the fish catch by traditional fisheries stood at 5,493 tonnes in January 2018. For the corresponding period in 2017, the catch was 4,907 tonnes, showing a percentage increase of 11.9 per cent.

In the Governorate of Musandam, the fish catch by traditional fisheries stood at 2,682 tonnes in January 2018. For the corresponding period in 2017, the catch was 2,535 tonnes, showing a percentage increase of 5.8 per cent. In the Governorate of South A’Sharqiyah, the fish catch by traditional fisheries stood at 8,747 tonnes in January 2018. For the corresponding period in 2017, the catch was 8,092 tonnes, showing a percentage increase of 8.1 per cent.

In the Governorate of Al Wusta, the fish catch through traditional fisheries stood at 13,679 tonnes in January 2018. For the corresponding period in 2017, the catch was 11,707 tonnes, showing a percentage increase of
