The Symposium on Gender in Aquaculture and Fisheries in India (GAF-India) will be held as part of the 11th Indian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum, the premier event of the Asian Fisheries Society Indian Branch. India has a vibrant fisheries sector ranging from the very traditional to the large scale, with diverse value chains and with varying contributions of women and men to the sector. Women and gender studies grounded in Indian fisheries and aquaculture experiences have contributed significantly to global knowledge. A more intensive examination of Indian issues will have wide-ranging benefits in India, regionally and globally. The GAF-India event will engage with the themes of the IFAF, and suggest future priorities arising from its own gender themes. The format of the symposium will be organised under various topics, with each having oral and poster presentations.

In conjunction with GAF-India, an International Workshop on Challenges in the Implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines on Small Scale Fisheries (SSFVG) of FAO in South Asia will be held. With the new Guidelines approved, the real challenges for the small scale fisheries sector now lie in how effectively the Guidelines can be implemented and ways and means to sensitize all stakeholders in the fisheries sector to wards its overall goals. This one day workshop during GAF-India will bring this challenge into focus through experiential presentations from selected countries.

178th Meeting of Expert Appraisal Committee for Projects Related To Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) to be held on 17th October, 2017 - All the documents such as Form-1, Pre-feasibility report, approval from the concerned State/UT Coastal Zone Management Authorities, Environment Impact Assessment Report, queries subsequently raised by the Ministry, if any, and para-wise comments thereto etc., in accordance with Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Notification, 2011 are required to be forwarded to the Chairman/Members of the Expert Appraisal Committee and MoEFCC including details of the court matters/Orders of the Court pertaining to the project (if any). Accordingly, a copy of each of these documents - Hard and Soft Copies (in CD) shall be forwarded to the Chairman/members of the Expert Appraisal Committee and MoEFCC by speed post so as to reach the members well in time. Names and addresses of the Chairman/Members are enclosed. All the documents including the hard copy of the presentation material should be legible and printed on both sides on ordinary paper.

The purpose of the Meeting will be to discuss issues relating to migrant fishers as part of the follow-up to the Resolutions concerning the promotion of welfare for fishers adopted at the 96th Session (2007) of the International Labour Conference. The meeting may adopt conclusions and resolutions. Information on the Meeting will be posted on www.ilo.org/sector.

The World Forum of Fisher People’s (WFFP) 7th General Assembly will be on 15th to 21st November 2017 in India (New Delhi). The fish workers movements like NFF and many other fisher peoples associations from 50 countries will participate

The Sub-Committee shall provide a forum for consultations on technical and economic aspects of international trade in fish and fishery products including pertinent aspects of production and consumption.

One of the focus areas of this WPC is on marine and coastal protected areas. The stream sessions on enhancing diversity and quality of governance, respecting indigenous and traditional knowledge and culture, and supporting human life have a specific focus on marine and coastal protected areas.
