The contribution of women to fisheries, fishing communities and society, is significant, and needs to be widely recognized and valorized.  This annotated bibliography on women in fisheries, searchable by theme, region, keyword, author and title (by clicking on the Search link above), has been developed by ICSF for use by those interested in/working on women's issues in fisheries.

The articles and other documents available have been classified according to eight themes: Role of women (in fisheries), (Role of women in) Aquaculture, Status of women, Recognition and Policy, Development Initiatives, Globalization, Struggles and Movements and Women and Resources Management. Often, documents available deal with overlapping sets of issues, and classifying them by theme has not always been an easy or objective process. This is a limitation that needs be kept in mind.

The work on improving the content and usefulness of this bibliography will be ongoing. We, therefore, invite you to send us your feedback and comments on any of the documents in this bibliography. We also invite you to inform us about important and interesting documents on women in fisheries that can be included in this bibliography.
