This meeting will address the following questions:
1. How to envision agricultural systems that ensure food availability on the basis of current and future status of ecosystems and natural resources?
2. How could entitlement failures be prevented for small-scale food producers and rural development promoted?
3. While the opportunities and constraints for the creation of green jobs and decent livelihoods in agriculture, forestry and fisheries?
4. How can a green economy promote resilient agricultural systems, in the face of macro-economic and natural shocks?
5. What kind of consumption and production patterns can best ensure the transition towards low-footprint food systems?

73rd session of AFPIC's Executive Committee

This is the first of a series of two workshops organized by the UN University (UNU), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The workshop will bring together representatives of indigenous peoples and marginalized populations, natural and social scientists, and other experts in relevant domains. The aim of the workshops is to identify, compile and analyse relevant indigenous and local observations, knowledge and practices related to understanding climate change impacts, adaptation and mitigation. This first workshop, which will focus on climate change vulnerability, adaptation and traditional knowledge, will be held in collaboration with the Mexican National Institute of Ecology (INE).

The Consultative Process at its 12th meeting will focus its discussions on “contributing to
the assessment, in the context of
the United Nations Conference on
Sustainable Development, of progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development and addressing new and emerging challenges”.

The conference aims to develop the
“Decade Resolution and Plan of Action on Sustainable Fisheries for Food Security in the ASEAN Region (Towards 2020)” by addressing concerns on the fi sheries situation and issues that may impede the sustainable development and contribution of fisheries to food
security.

The theme for this year's Ocean's day is "Our oceans: greening our future".

This meeting will focus on vulnerability, resilience and capacity for adaptation of communities in areas that are prone to disaster due to climate change, the protection of displaced people, and promotion of action to help prevent or manage displacement. The conference also aims to provide up-to-date projections with regard to drivers of displacement such as drought, floods, storms and sea-level rise.
